When we started making elderberry syrup, I will admit it, I was a skeptic. Our son has a compromised immune system and I was desperate to try anything that would keep him from getting sick and being on one medicine to the next. I started making elderberry syrup, and within the first month, I started feeling a change in my body. A really positive change! I wasn't as susceptible to getting sick or feeling run down. I felt like I could be around people who were sick and not risk getting it myself. Of course, we still took washing hand precautions. For our son, it took about 6 months for his immune system to build up, but then his sick periods seem to come less often and a fraction of the time. You could say my skepticism is gone and I am totally a believer! Elderberry syrup is a lifestyle change for us!
Benefits of elderberries -
Boosts Immune System –
Elderberries help to boost the body's immune system and minimize the symptoms of cold and flu, sore throat, cough, fever, and even bronchitis or respiratory issues. Elderberries contain bioflavonoids that fight inflammation and act as an expectorant to help the body get rid of phlegm. People with asthma find elderberry syrup particularly helpful as it improves their breathing.
Improves Body and Heart Health –
Elderberries have high levels of fiber which aid in digestion. It helps remove excess cholesterol and enables a higher production of HDL cholesterol which our bodies need for great health. Elderberries also have a high amount of potassium that works to relax the tension of blood vessels and arteries that could potentially lead to a heart attack. Since potassium lowers blood pressure, that is another eliminating factor that could lead to serious heart issues.
Natural Laxative –
Elderberries help to relieve constipation, gas and improve gastrointestinal health. It also helps the gut which in turn helps you to receive more nutrients with the food you consume.
Reduces Allergies –
Elderberry syrup is an effective relief agent for allergy symptoms. It also detoxifies the liver and helps it to function better.
Helps to Create Health Skin –
Because elderberries have bioflavonoids, it helps encourage radiant, healthy skin. Elderberries have antioxidant properties and vitamin A, which help to reduce wrinkles and age spots.
Lowers Blood Sugar –
Those who suffer from diabetes, benefit greatly from elderberry syrup as it contains antioxidants that help to regulate insulin and glucose levels in the pancreas. Elderberries can stimulate glucose metabolism which in turn lowers blood sugar levels.
